18 HOURS (6 weeks) - $115 plus registration fee -  Class Begins Wednesday January 24th Online Registration

Learn many of the basics of water media such as Watercolors, Guache, Drawing Inks, and other various materials used in addition to create certain textural, gradient, and wash effects. We will create a bookmark to start and then transfer the lesson into an invitation, a small painting that can be framed, or open possibilities for those that want to  illustrate their own children's book or larger painting. We will explore nature at its best drawing our inspirations from animals, plants, and landscapes. Each session will bring a new focus and direction to go with where watermedia is appreciated at its best.

Auto Maintenance  

30 HOURS (10 Weeks) - $180.00 plus registration fee – Next Class begins Monday January 22nd 2018

This is a hands-on course in basic auto repair and preventive maintenance. Maintenance can include Basic Breaks, Tune-ups, Struts, Alignments and Balancing. Students may work on personal automobiles to complete minor repair project. Safety glasses required.

Carpentry and Home Repair

Build Your Own Adirondack Chair

15 HOURS (5 weeks) $100 plus Materials Fee. -  Next Class begins Wednesday January 24th 2018

This course is for those who would like to learn how to build your own Adirondack chair. No Experience Necessary! . Cost for Materials is $40.00 or bring your own. Safety glasses required

Basic Home Repair  

30 HOURS (10 Weeks) - $180.00 plus registration fee - Next Class begins Monday January 22nd 2018

This 10-week course introduces the basic fundamentals of electricity, plumbing, and carpentry. Students will become familiar with the concepts – and the most commonly used hand tools – of each of these three disciplines and will gain hands-on know-how. By the end of the course, they should be able to recognize each tool, describe its features and common uses, and be comfortable using it for basic home repair. The objective of the course is to empower students – through guided experience – with the confidence to take on many common household repairs, because they will be familiar with basic home electrical, plumbing, and carpentry systems and will have practical experience using the tools of each trade.

Basic Masonry Home Projects

30 HOURS (10 Weeks) - $180.00 plus registration fee -  Next Class begins Wednesday January 24th 2018

This is a hands-on course. Projects such as walkways and patios using paving bricks, retaining walls use of the new interlocking block and the building and repair of brick stairs will be demonstrated. The student will also learn how to build both brick and block walls with mortar and stucco finish. Safety Glasses required

Basic Woodworking

30 HOURS $180.00 plus registration fee -  Class is Closed for Spring 2018

This course is for the beginner or for those who have some experience and will cover the Carpentry and Woodworking fundamentals as well as emphasize familiarity with a wide variety of hand tools and power tools. By learning these advanced techniques, you can become more valuable to your organization or a prospective employer. You may sign up for an individual class or all three classes. Excel 2013 Beginner

Learn introductory Excel 2013 skills by creating spreadsheets in a logical step-by-step manner, formatting and editing worksheets, working with formulas and functions, designing and formatting cell contents, and learning time-saving shortcuts.

9 Hours - $80 -   February 12th, March 5th and March 12th
Prerequisite: Excel 2013 Beginner or equivalent experience

Learn intermediate Excel 2013 skills by creating and modifying charts, working with themes and cell styles, applying conditional formatting, working with date functions, navigating with cell names, and linking and sorting multiple worksheets.

Excel 2013 Advanced

9 hours - $80     March 19th, 26th, and April 2nd
Prerequisite: Excel 2013 Intermediate or equivalent experience

Learn advanced Excel 2013 skills by creating, sorting, and filtering tables, generating subtotals and using outlining tools, utilizing advanced functions including lookups, analyzing data with pivot tables, and creating and running macros.

 QuickBooks

(18 Hours - 6 weeks) - $115 plus registration fee - Class Begins Wednesday January 24th

QuickBooks is a powerful accounting system for small businesses. Learn how to manage and enter business transactions, track company sales, setup customers, receive payments from customers, make bank deposits, write off bad debt, create customer statements, and produce sales reports. Manage expenses by setting up and paying vendors, printing checks, tracking company credit cards, paying sales tax, and producing accounts payable reports. Reconcile bank and credit card accounts and learn how to handle bounced checks.

AutoCAD I

This is an entry level course designed to gain theory and hands-on experience using AutoCAD 2016. Students will learn the fundamentals and various components of a computer graphic system including how to draw and edit lines, circles, complex shapes and set-up and plan two dimensional drawings.

Fitness Center Activities

16 Hours - $75 -  Next Class begins January 2018

Come work out in the Whittier Fitness Center! Activities will include stability ball exercises, yoga stretches, resistance bands, free weights, and kettle bells. The Fitness Center has Treadmills, Spin bikes, Cross Trainers, MaxiCam weight machines, and free weight equipment. The instructor will run classes and help individuals design their own fitness programs.

Landscape Design

Landscape Design

18 Hours (8 weeks) - $115 plus registration fee - Next Class begins Monday January 22nd 2018

Examine the nature of visual experience, and get a sound useful introduction to the primary properties of visual elements.  Learn to design attractive, comfortable and functional outdoor areas that increase curb appeal, and add years of beauty, enjoyment, and real value to your home.   We will study the basic principles of design and their direct application to landscaping:  planting beds (foundation, perimeter and privacy plantings); gardens (herbs and vegetables); "hardscaping" (walls, walkways, patios); plant materials (trees, shrubs, ground covers, and perennials).  Participants have the opportunity to produce a landscape design for a residential property of their choice. Materials: pencil, notebook, site photos.  

Additional materials for subsequent classes:  ruler, compass, protractor, square, French Curve.  Site plan of the property with boundaries and footprint of the house is extremely helpful.

Photography

Digital Photography, Retouching and Printing using a Digital SLR Camera

18 HOURS (6 weeks) - $115 plus registration fee -  Next Class begins Wednesday January 24th 2018

This course is intended for people who are enthusiastic beginners. Students will learn how to use their camera's manual settings rather than rely on "auto" mode. Emphasis will be placed on image composition. Photo editing essentials such as retouching, color correction, cropping, and converting images to black and white will also be presented. Students will print their completed work on an Epson professional photo printer.

Digital SLR camera (or high-end point and shoot camera with manual settings) and two 1GB memory cards required.

Sewing - Project Base Sewing Class

Digital Photography, Retouching and Printing using a Digital SLR Camera

18 HOURS (6 weeks) - $115 plus registration fee -  Next Class begins Wednesday January 24th 2018

This class is geared for participants with various sewing skills. You will pick a project and take it from beginning stages to completion. Each participant can complete one to as many projects as they would like. Some suggestions:

  • Personal Accessories such as a tote bag , cosmetic bags, fabric handbags, ipad/ereader holders and aprons.
  • Home Accessories such as decorative pillows, interchangeable decorative pillow covers, casserole carriers, table runners, table cloths, and chair cushions.

Requirements: Sewing machine, scissors, materials to complete your project (fabric, interfacing, pillow foams, foam, pins, and any specific notions.

Instructor will provide patterns, written instructions, serger, and iron.
